VITAL Pipeline Safety Information

To keep our neighbors and communities informed about our operations, Buckeye Partners has an active public awareness program. Our program is designed to both provide timely and relevant information on our operations and address any questions that you may have about our pipelines or facilities.

One method we use to ensure we are keeping our neighbors informed about our operations is to regularly mail a brochure that contains vital pipeline information. If you receive one of these informational mailings, please fill out and return the response card. Your input is critical to our program. You can also download the Pipeline Awareness Viewer (PAV) app on your mobile device to obtain additional information. Instructions are included on the back of the brochure.

If you would like to view one of our pipeline informational brochures, you can download them below:

Call 811 Before You Dig

If you are planning any work that requires excavation activity such as installing a mailbox, building a fence, tilling your land, or building homes, the law requires that you call 811 at least 3 business days before you dig to prevent serious accidents involving underground utilities and to prevent your company from incurring civil and possibly criminal penalties. 811 is the free national call-before-you-dig phone number that provides pre-excavation notification to underground facility operators.

Right-of-Way Line Markers

Do not remove line markers from our Right-of-Way. These markers indicate the appropriate location of our pipelines and let people know that a pipeline is in the vicinity. Removal of these line markers is a violation of Federal law.

24hr Notice

When excavation activity does not occur at the scheduled time, the excavator must notify Buckeye Partners of the schedule change. We require 24-hour notice to reschedule personnel.

Buckeye Pipeline Protector

A Buckeye Pipeline Protector must be present during any excavation work conducted in the vicinity of Buckeye Partners’ pipelines or facilities in order to protect the safety of the pipeline, the public and the environment.

Pipeline inspection

Before backfilling is conducted over a pipeline, the condition of the pipe and coating must be inspected by a Buckeye Partners representative. During the backfill operation, warning mesh will be installed.

Raising Awareness for Damage Prevention

We have partnered with The National Excavator Initiative, a 501(c)(3) organization, to raise awareness around damage prevention and the 811 program. Through this partnership, we have sponsored the development of a series of safety messages, designed for those who could potentially be impacted by damage to underground infrastructure.
